Ellen Bain
Growing up in the Midwest, Ellen devoted much of her time and energy to the gamut of traditional team sports. Seemingly abstract and irrelevant to her daily regime, yoga was never on her menu of activities. Only after reading that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar attributed his yoga practice as the driving force behind his longevity in the NBA did she finally give yoga a shot.
Upon moving back to Colorado in 1996, Ellen discovered ashtanga vinyasa yoga and began to practice on a semi-regular basis. She marveled at the fact that her flexibility, strength, and endurance markedly improved in such a limited time on the mat. More important and rather unexpectedly, it became evident that yoga was much far more than a physical practice. Her journey on the yogic path had slowly begun...
Several years later, Ellen became aware of the Baptiste style of yoga and attended several workshops and boot camps around the country. This challenging, yet accessible style immediately struck a chord with her. Ellen recognized that she had found a practice that she would do on a daily basis·and eventually share with others as an instructor.
Teaching yoga since 2004, Ellen shares her passion with a dynamic, inspiring, and compassionate style that challenges students to explore their own personal edge in a supportive environment. Having personally experienced physical, emotional, and spiritual growth as a result of yoga, Ellen is grateful for the opportunity to share this transformative practice with others.
Ellen is committed to ongoing development as both a student and teacher of yoga. She continues to broaden her perspective via studies with a wide array of teachers and disciplines. In addition to Baron Baptiste, Ellen is influenced by Richard Freeman, Holiday Johnson, David Swenson, Beryl Bender Birch, and Seane Corn.
Ellen currently resides in New York City where she teaches at Equinox Fitness Clubs and Practice Yoga in addition to her work within the sports and fitness industry.
