Stacy Shepherd began her yoga training with a book by B.K.S Iyengar – Light on Yoga – and a Certified Iyengar Instructor, George Purvis, in a rented dance-studio in 1982. She was drawn to a Power Vinyasa class at the gym in 2002 and was persuaded to pursue her yoga teacher training by fellow practitioners in 2005.
She completed her first 200-hour teacher training through YogaFit in 2007, and began teaching at local gyms. Her next 200-hour teacher certification was with Kurt Johnsen, owner and developer of American Power Yoga in 2008. She was drawn to this practice which combines the physicality of a strong, power Vinyasa with Tai-Chi as the basis for breath-body-mind connection and the Tao as part of the spiritual message of the class.
Stacy began teaching in several local Power yoga studios and “discovered” the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute in 2008 when Baron held a weekend immersion in Dallas. Totally turned-on, lit- up and wrung-out from the experience, she committed to more training in the Baptiste Methodology. She attended her Level I Teacher Training with Baron in 2010, Level II in 2011. She began assisting classes at a Baptiste Affiliate studio, after completing training in the Art of Assisting, and began teaching there in 2011- she completed her Baptiste Certification, becoming certified in 2012.
Stacy is inspired by the people she meets every day. Though she gains inspiration from her teachers on the mat – George Purvis, Ki Steelman – Browning, Kurt Johnsen, Amy Johnson, Rod Stryker and Baron Baptiste, she is mostly inspired by those yogis who practice when they don’t even know they are practicing, making peace in the world in the smallest moments of everyday life – the ripple-starters.
