J.P. is a true renaissance man. He is a master carpenter. He has practiced the art of building since his days with the Amish growing up in Ohio. He is also known for his expertise in building sustainable, eco-urban traditional neighborhoods such as Amelia Park, Florida. From his heart to his hands, from board rooms to bivouacs, J.P. understands the value of living an authentic, adventurous life. He believes the life of sannyasin is similar to driving a 5 speed sports car. You must listen and feel the vehicle to know when it’s time to shift gears.
After reading An Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramhansa Yogananda in 1985 he began a course in study through the Self Realization Fellowship. This was his introduction to the transformational benefits Yoga. A lifelong outdoorsman, J.P. also instructed with the North Carolina Outward Bound School leading rock climbing, whitewater paddling and mountaineering expeditions. He has climbed among some of the highest mountains in North America but considers building and developing relationships the most rewarding expeditions of all. His instructional style is informed by his life experience, Outward Bounds emphasis on group dynamics, as well as his B.S.E.D. from Ohio University. He teaches to empower students to live at cause, discover for themselves and take responsibility for their growth within the larger context of sanga.
J.P. believes we are energetic beings with unlimited potential whose journey happens to include a physical body. He is a level ii Reiki practitioner. He has also studied with Zen master Thich Nhat Hahn and much like Baron sees the interbeing of all great teachings. In 2008 he again shifted gears to pursue his passion for relationships through yoga. He met and married his soulmate Cassie and together they have traveled and studied all over the world. They have lived in Indian ashrams to study yoga and ayurveda and have been certified in Yoga by the Indian Government. With Baron they have attended bootcamps in Park City, Utah, in 2008, Immersions in Florida as well as completing their Level 1 in Hawaii in Feb. 2009 and Level 2 in Montana Sept. 2009.
